A toilet that drains slowly, a shower tray that stays full, or a kitchen sink that gurgles back when the washing machine empties. That last one is the signal that the blockage is not in the unit itself but further along, in the shared waste pipe or in the connection to the public sewer.

We clear blockages with a rodding spring and, where that is not enough, with high pressure water. If something is structurally wrong we put a camera in, and you see on the screen where it goes wrong, with the distance in metres alongside it.

Not an emergency, but you have a question?

Send a photo of the connection or the meter cupboard and we know which part to bring. Or leave your details in the form at the bottom of this page.

One outlet blocked

If only the sink or the shower will not drain, it sits in the trap or the first stretch behind it. That is usually cleared within the hour. Do not use a caustic soda drain cleaner: it rarely solves the problem and it makes the work afterwards dangerous.

Several outlets at once

If the toilet, the shower and the sink all back up together, the blockage sits in the collector pipe or in the house connection. That needs high pressure water through the rodding eye, an access point that in Aalsmeer houses is usually in the garden or under a small cover beside the front wall.

A blockage that keeps coming back

If the same blockage returns every six months, something is wrong with the pipe itself. On ground that settles the way it does here, a sewer pipe tilts and a dip forms where fat and paper stay behind. A camera survey shows and measures that, and only then is a repair worth paying for.

Questions about blocked drains

What can I try myself?

A plunger, and with a kitchen sink, unscrewing the trap with a bucket underneath. Do not use a caustic soda drain cleaner: it seldom works and it stays in the pipe, which makes the work afterwards dangerous.

Who pays, me or the council?

Up to the boundary of your plot the pipe is yours. If the blockage sits in the public main sewer, the work is for the council (gemeente). A camera records the position and the distance in metres, and that is exactly what you need in order to report it to them.

Where is the rodding eye?

Usually in the front or back garden, under a round or square cover close to the wall. In the ribbon development along the Aalsmeerderdijk it sits indoors more often, in the crawl space under the ground floor (kruipruimte). If you do not know where it is, we find it.

How long does clearing a blockage take?

A single outlet is usually done within the first hour. A blockage in the house connection takes longer, normally one to two hours. If it runs over, you hear that before the time keeps running.

Where we come out for this

Drain clearing in Aalsmeer, Kudelstaart, Rijsenhout and Aalsmeerderbrug. The ground in this area settles, and on peat and reclaimed polder subsoil sewer pipes end up lying out of true. That is why blockages come back more often here than on firm sandy ground, and why a camera survey is worth more here than it would be elsewhere.

The call-out charge and the hourly rate are on the rates page in advance. There is no separate charge for the high pressure unit.
